Sarah Waters' TIPPING THE VELVET to be re-issued by Virago Modern Classics in their new 'Coming of Age' collection

Virago’s 'Coming of Age' collection this August will see TIPPING THE VELVET reissued alongside four other novels: Emma Donoghue’s SLAMMERKIN, Rosamond Lehmann’s 1930s novel INVITATION TO THE WALTZ, Miles Franklin’s turn-of-the-century book MY BRILLIANT CAREER and Rumer Godden’s THE RIVER. Maya Angelou’s memoir I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS is also included in the collection, which will showcase new jacket covers designed by New York-based illustrator Mira Nameth.

 

Virago said that they chose each book "for its striking depiction of a time, a place, and of a young woman on the cusp of adulthood".

 

Commissioning editor Rowan Cope added, "We are trying to create a little collection that will showcase the best of Virago."
