Mary Morrissy was born in Dublin in 1957. She has published a collection of stories, A LAZY EYE, and two novels, MOTHER OF PEARL and THE PRETENDER. She won the Hennessey award in 1984, a Lannan Literary Award in 1995 and was shortlisted for the Whitbread Prize in 1996. Morrissy, who lives in Ireland, has worked as a journalist and fiction reviewer, and has taught in creative writing programs at the Universities of Arkansas and Iowa. She has recently been awarded a one-year fellowship at the New York Public Library, where she is working on a new novel.
